Hi Everyone,

First of all kudos to this group - I have received so much help just
reading the messages and thereby using Moviemaker to successfully
make movies with my Sony TRV740E through the firewire.

However, have just purchased a Sony DV201E which uses USB
and having problems. Maybe someone can help.

On my PC which runs WindowsXPSP2 and WMM2 I transfer the
files from the 201E with Pixela and save to an Album on my hard
drive.

Then MM2 does not recognise the mpg files, something about too may
interfaces to fire....

On my Laptop running WindowsXP and MM2 it does recognise them
and I can create a movie project and render it to DV-AVI prior to
burning with Nero, BUT do not have a DVD burner on my laptop, so
it is a lengthy process transferring the AVI files to my PC.

Can anyone suggest why MM2 running on the PC cannot recognise
the files.

The Pixela Imaging prog does convert to a movie of sorts mpeg2
but there is a noticeable drop in the quality.

Noelle,

It's all about which codecs are on each computer and which ones are used by
Movie Maker.

When my laptop went to a repair shop a month ago, it had over 100 codecs....
it came back with the same operating system, but with less than 50 codecs.

MPEG-2 files are difficult at best for Movie Maker to work with. Your laptop
working with them as well as it is might be the exception rather than your
desktop.

Is this the DVD201 cam? Which uses dvd discs rather than minidv tape?
If so, it records in an mpeg2 variant anyway, which is lower quality than
minidv avi.
It probably is easiest to carry on doing what you are doing, or try to find
teh codec that is on the laptop being used and see if you can install it on
the pc and hope that it works, as it may not.
I doubt you'll get any improvement in quality though, these cams are best
for record and watch and not for editing.

Graham,

I am not able to edit my MPEG files, I am only able to get audio from an
MPEG file that I have transferred to my computer. Do you know what might be
causing this? I can't see any video once I have imported into WMM2...it just
plays the audio.

Thanks

David
