I had not been happy with the way Power Management was
working in Vista on this laptop. Sleep/Standby had never worked
for me. Hibernate was flakey.

The situation has vastly improved in Build 5744. My laptop
goes to Sleep without a hitch and wakes from Sleep correctly.

Of course, it is hard to know exactly what was causing my
problems- could have been a video driver that kept Sleep
from functioning properly. I am happy the problem has been
fixed.

I agree my desktop system simply never woke from sleep or hibernate but
thats fixed now with RC2 the only remaining issue I have is that there is no
sound after comming out of sleep or hibernate
But thats an issue with the sound driver because I had to install the
windows Xp sound drivers for my Motherboard because the ones vista installs
during setup don't give me sound in media center
but having hibernate and sleep working is a great step foward well done MSFT

I'm not so sure that it has improved - at least in my case. With Vista x86
RC2 it appears to be working well.

I just did a clean install of RC2 x64 yesterday and twice now Vista as
crashed. Once after going into sleep and once after coming out of sleep.
These are the only two times it has gone to sleep. The system has no
problem with sleep under XP x64.

Need to look more closely at what is going on. But the second time (it came
out of sleep and then immediately blue screened) it appeared that IE7 was
trying to recover from sleep mode and caused the BSOD.

I'd say that could be a driver issue I had that with build 5600 32 bit I
didn't get the BSODS
but it never woke from sleep
I used the msconfig utility and did a selective startup and narrowed it down
to my sound drivers
I still have a problem with my sound after waking but at least now it does
wake so I guess thats a step foward.

Still badly broken here with RC2 in both x64 and x86 flavours..

My Intel Core 2 Duo on Asus P5B motherboard, RC2 x64, when I hibernate, it
reboots and resumes back to the desktop instead of switching off. Same
problem with sleep. XP x64 works fine (so it's not a BIOS setting or
such).

My Sony Vaio laptop, FS-295XP goes into a deep sleep than cannot be woken
from. Hibernate does seem to work on that one however.

Video and Power are still the very weak areas on Vista, even at RC2
state.....
