[Kerio 4.x] New version of Kerio Personal Firewall released
Hi,

new beta version of Kerio Personal Firewall has been released. You can
download it at http://www.kerio.com/beta_section.html

Windows NT, 2000, XP English 4.7 MB Download!

or check for updates from currently installed KPF4.

This beta version currently supports Windows NT only, support for Win
98 and Win ME is planned for future releases.

Changelog:
Version 4.1.0 Beta (10 May 2004)

+ added stateful inspection for UDP and other IP protocols - KPF will
automaticaly permit packets that are genuine rensponses to requests.
It reduces number of required rules and simplifies their creation. It
also reduces number of network related events that are shown by KPF.

+ KPF kernel driver protects computer even if KPF service is not
running
+ redesigned and rewriten IDS

- fixed several bugs in GUI and web filter

I have it on my system. Damn, that's a fine firewall!

Too bad it doesn't have any logging of packets to unopened ports...

Exactly why I won't use it. "I" decide what passes through, not Kerio. KPF
version 4 is a step in the wrong direction - a "firewall for dummies" like
Zone Alarm.


I don't need a firewall "protecting" my computer when offline. Another step
towards the "firewall for dummies."



KPF 4 has been a buggy piece of junk since it's inception, mainly the
reason why I and numerous other former beta testers decided to have nothing
to do with it.

I tried out 4.0.16 recently, thinking that it should be pretty bug free
by this time, and within 3 or 4 hours I saw 4 bugs.. one of which was
pretty serious. By itself, it changed one of my rules, which is
ridiculous.. And the worse thing about it is it's total lack of
logging. You can't see what's going on without logging. So I'm
sticking with Kerio 2.1.5, which I like much better anyway.

It's amazing that they can't get the bugs worked out or put necessary
features in the damn thing...
