I have had a Dual iv for about three weeks and am happy using it apart from
:-

1. Unknown Error 1. What earthly use is this message ? In the ancient
computer days - 1960s - we used to have a reply word which we could access
to determine the fault - what peripheral had caused it !!!

2. The transport sometimes jams.

3. The on/off often doesn't work and the only answer is to pull the power
plug. This causes inteference which could be quite harmful.

I am using Windows 98 SE and rear connecting USB 1 and would any helpful
advice,

Thanks,

From what I heard on this newsgroup, these problems might well be
caused by the USB controller/driver. I personally never encountered these.

Try closing the scanner door and see if you get the please set to 35mm
message. If you do not get that message, then the scanner is frozen

Pull the power plug and the USB plug then reboot the computer. Restart the
scanner.

I have found that the problems you are experiencing with the Minolta
Scandual 4 are very common on Windows 98SE.

Most if not all problems disappear on Windows XP SP2.

I also get a BugCheckError and then a computer freeze when turning off the
scanner after scanning several films in Windows 98SE.

There are less problems if you download ScanDual4 Software version 1.0.1
from the Minolta web site. Three parts, get all. This is a complete
replacement for the software on the CD.
