Hi folks,

I recently purchased this printer and had to return it because the
toner wasn't fusing to the paper. I exchanged it for another printer
and it was doing the same thing. But after playing around with it, I
discovered that if you print everything with the glossy setting, it
prints beautifully. Absolutely stunning! But it only works on
8.5x11" paper. This works for me because I rarely print on legal
size paper anyway. But if anyone else is having this kind of issue
this could work for you, too. Hope this helps!

Thanks for posting this, I am sure it will help someone.
What is almost certainly happening is that the fuser temperature is higher when
the printer thinks it is printing on glossy paper. Many laser printers vary
the fuser temperature according to the paper type in use. Of course the printer
should fuse correctly using plain paper but that may be another story.

It sounds like either the paper you were using was not designed to work
with color laser (most cheap bond paper works fine) or the fuser is not
keeping proper temperature, of an electronic failure.

The glossy setting is usually hotter and/or the fuser/transport moves
more slowly. This seems to indicate the fuser is not being kept to
proper temperature in normal position.

Are you using weird or damp paper?

Are you using weird or damp paper?

No, I'm using new Hammermill Laser Paper. I'm also using some cheap
20lb paper that's works great with the glossy setting, too. I may not
get the higher speed of the printer but I am getting high quality
print outs.

Micael,

My only concern would be that the fuser and or the thermostatic control,
or even the power supply is not working at capacity, and may get worse.
Sicne the unit is new and under warranty, I would try to get this
corrected now. Assuming you are using regular bond paper at about 20
pound, and it is not coated with something weird, the toner should be
fusing to it properly, and not doing so is indicative of a problem with
the printer that is asking for attention.

Hi Michael,

Could it be that your fuser tabs are set to envelope? This is causing
the toner to come off, please see the manu for more info.

Hugo

I have the same problem with this printer.
It looks decent when a page with color is printed.
Whenever only black is used, however, it smears all over the page.

I am using Hamilton Multipurpose 24lb. paper.

Any idea of fixing it through the menu? Whenever I try to print
anything but plain paper (thich stock, or glossy), it is asking me to
put in Tray 1. But there is only one tray.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Solution Found!

Removed the FUSER lever to normal setting. It was at Envelope Setting
the whole time.
Thanks everyone!

Look in page 54 (62 of 144) to locate the lever:
