Hello,

I am trying to access a known website but no matter what I do to IE (XP Home SP2) I get a "not found" response. I set all my internet security zones to default and still cannot get it. Any help out there? The website is below:

Check C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc for a file named HOSTS with no
extension. (Not Hosts.sam)
Make sure Windows is set to show hidden files and folders and is NOT set to
hide extensions for known file types.
If HOSTS exists, rename it to HOSTS.OLD
Reboot an try again.

Or, In a Cmd window, enter
ipconfig /flushdns
then clear your TIF also, and re-boot.

Hi Bob :-)

Try the following and see if it helps:

Internet Explorer Cannot Connect to Secure Web Sites
http://www.helpwithwindows.com/WindowsXP/troub-10.html

Cannot Connect to Secure Sites
http://www.duxcw.com/faq/win/xp/secure.htm

or....

Why can't I browse certain websites

Any firewall program you use, including Zone Alarm, can block out sites and
their cookies. Try disabling the XP SP2 firewall and any 3rd party
toolbars, popup or ad blockers as well and see if that helps.

Some sites require you to accept their cookies, and 3rd party cookies as
well, to access the site. Try adjusting or overriding our Cookies policy in
Control Panel>Internet Options>and check in the Privacy tab as well

Try adding the site to your Trusted Zone too.

also..

Check for a file named HOSTS with no extension (not Hosts.sam). It may be a
hidden file. Open it with Notepad and remove any line referencing the site.
Or, rename HOSTS to OLDHOSTS.

Hope this helps.

Tried you suggestion but still couldn't get there. This is the only site (https) or otherwise that I cannot get to. BTW the site was not in the HOSTS file but I renamed it anyway.

For once that isn’t IE’s fault, that is a server error (404 file
not found), nothing you can do to fix it.
