THANK YOU, DC! For calling my attention to that. I've been racking
my brain (OW!), this afternoon, trying to remember that site, and I
couldn't remember the name "mailinator"! It's bookmarked on the
dead machine, of course. :)

3.2 from 2003/07/26

Thanks Bernd - I panicked and posted in haste when I saw the news that
software patent fears had caused Knoppix to be withdrawn.
My apologies for precipitate posting!
And thank goodness it's still here.
I'm MD5-ing KNOPPIX_V3.2-2003-07-26-EN.iso right now.

The most recent version I recall was (methinks) 3.2. You might want to try here:

http://download.linuxtag.org/knoppix/

Dunno how long this will be available though. See below:

http://www.knoppix.com/

Closed because of "Software-Patents"

In the next few days, the European Parliament will decide about the legalisation and adoption of
so-called "software patents" in Europe, which are already used by large companies in other
countries to put competitors out of business. This can lead to the termination of many software
projects such as KNOPPIX, at least within Europe, because the holders of the over 30,000 already
granted "software patents" (currently without a legal foundation) can claim exclusive rights and
collect license fees for trivial things like "progress bars", "mouseclicks on online order
forms", "scrolling within a window" and similar.

[Gee, wonder who's behind all of this]

The closure has been suggested as a form of online protest - some
other sites are also participating.

eg. http://www2.arnes.si/~sopjsimo/gimp/

In the case of Knoppix, there is a link to the normal index in the
text.

It's not an issue with Knoppix in particular - YET.

NB. There is another vote due as well - which will threaten any
examination or defeating of protections, hardware or software.

Say goodbye to your DVD-rippers, and DVD de-regioning!
