Sorry I don't subscribe to many other pc news groups so I wasn't sure
if I should post this here figured I would give it a shot.

Any way I am looking for remote desktop software that is EASY as 123
to use as I want to access my pc from my sisters house over the
holiday season.. BOTH pc are connected to routers and the notion of
port forwarding for windows xp remote desktop makes my head spin.

I want something that doesn't require monthly fees and easy to use as
anything involving networking confuses the hell out of me… any help
appreciated…. :)

Dude routers require you to learn either DMZ ennoblement or forwarding.
NetMeeting is the EASIEST CHEAPEST, and you can add sound and camera.

Very simple I do it on the holidays all the time.

Holy crap spell checker went nuts... enablement is not a word?
ennoblement=enable-ment

Hey thanks for the fast responses.. Yeah I thought about net meeting
but my computer isn't going to be on all the time so I have to call
home to have someone turn it on when I need it.. <they know nothing
about computers..>

Anyway I may have just found the answer to my own question.. I was
google-ing remote desktop software and I found a site called
http://www.logmein.com

Its web based and offers a completely free version as well as paid pro
versions but the free seems to do everything I need which is basically
control my PC remotely and download my agent headers ;)

I tested it just now with another PC here at home and it works
smooth.... NEATO...

I use NetMeeting not for accessing my own computer remotely, but for
helping others remotely. It's consistent, it always works. Voice
communications is fishy but usually isn't necessary anyway.

When you set it up, enter fake information and don't connect to
Microsoft servers (because they don't exist anymore).

I think the most recent version is 3.01, from 2001.

That's for transferring files over Serial, Parallel or USB. (Unless
they've done way more in the 5 years since I last used it) It's not a
remote desktop.
