Killed off my Boot.ini

In a rare stroke of brilliance I've managed to make a
complete mess of my Boot.ini (or at least I think I did).

I tried to set up a dual boot with Win98SE and XP Pro. XP
was previously installed (on an NTFS partition), and I
peeled off a 250meg FAT16 partition with Partition Magic.
The new FAT16 partition is now C:.

To make a long and tedious story short, nothing works
after installing Win98. Win98 resides in c:\windows, XP
in d:\windoze (there's a previous install in d:\windows).
Obviously installing 98 killed off XP, so Repair console
and FixMBR and FixBoot were in order. Add copious amounts
of clueless messing with BootCFG, manual editing of
Boot.ini, and NTLDR having been copied from d: to c:, and
I have a mess on my hands.

Boot.ini (on the FAT16 C-drive) now looks like this:
---
[boot loader]
timeout=10
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOZE
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOZE="Microsoft
Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
c:\windows="Win98"
---
Basically it's just me giving it a shot. I'm utterly
clueless as to how the XP boot sequence works. Especially
the "partition(2)" bit is me hoping that '2' is in fact
the D: disk. Selecting either option causes the computer
to immediately re-boot. I desperately do not want to re-
install.

Please help. :)
