Kill my mouse~!

Hello:

I'm running a win2k pro on a P4. My mouse is an ibm branded optical mouse.

The damn pointer on screen, is fighting with my mouse. The pointer is acting
like it has to be dragged against its will.

I have tried uninstalling the mouse and installing it with both the mfg and
microsft drivers. still this same behavior. my bios chip is less than a year
old.

any suggestions before I strangle my mouse!
