How do I disable this cursed Messenger Service? I'm
getting pretty irritated with these pornographic popups
that always seem to occur when my 5 year old son is
playing on the computer.

You can stop windows messenger
Go to Being produced and read the answer for SUSAN
If you can't mail me i will explain it again

OK, I'm on AOL, I've disabled windows messenger...My
first day on XP Home...came here, and I keep reading how
everyone is having the same problem with the pop
ups....WHY is there such a thing on XP if it is such a
hugh problem for so many of us? Is there a way to just
uninstall windows messenger completely without! messing
anything else up? I do not use outlook express - got my
aol email, do have ie6SP1, have certain sites
restricted/cookies blocked...do not have the brainpower
or money to buy one to try to figure out a firewall for
this one problem! Thanks!

I was able to get rid of messenger pretty easily. There
are a couple ways that I've found, but the easiest is to
just disable it from add/remove programs > microsoft
services. First, if you use outlook express, make sure
the "auto start messenger" box is unchecked, and then
close out of OE. Exit out of msgr from the taskbar.
Then go to add/remove progs, and on the left click on
Microsoft services. uncheck messenger and then go to
finish, or update.. whatever is next. May need to
reboot. Should solve your problems. Some report that
this slows down OE. If so, just google for OE
troubleshooting and you should find some solutions. Good
luck!

http://www.dougknox.com/ http://grc.com/freepopular.htm . But, as stated,
you need a popupstopper and firewall. Windows Messenger Service is not the
same as MSN Messenger instant messaging. It is the Windows Messenger
Service which is allowing this spamming but we disabled both.
