In organizing my photo collection, I have added keywords to each photo
property. I have the system set up to index the files for searching.
However, when I search, it appears to look only at the file name, not
keywords.

Have I missed a step?

yes, that is correct
if you use the file name
criterion.

however, if you enter the
keyword in the secondary
search criterion box (text),
it will search inside the files and skip over
filenames.

I have selected the advanced option, and added keywords in the "what do you
want to look for in name and contents of file" box. Its not querying the
keywords.
I've clicked on the "search" icon and have the little search companion pop
up. Is there a better way to do this? - Kathy

================================
If you wish to search on keywords using the
WinXP search engine...why not simply add
the keywords by the following steps:

Select one or more images and right click
the selected group....from the menu...choose...
Properties / Summary tab / Advanced button...

Scroll to and select the Keyword field and
start typing...separate the entries with a
comma.

When you search, enter the keyword in the,
"A word or phrase in the file" field.

Thanks for the idea John. I entered the keywords that way, but did not put a
comma between them. I bet that's the problem! I'll give that a try.

Maybe it doesn't work on all TIFF files...
especially if they were downloaded from
a digital camera. Can you enter the info
and not search it...or are you prevented
from entering it?

This may be where a program like Digital
Image Suite 2006 or even Picasa may be
useful.

My test was with JPEGs. Anyway...did
you search from the: "A word or phrase
in the file" field?

actually, a semi colon after
each keyword would be better
than a comma.

however, i was playing around
with this keyword issue on my machine.

in addition, i was comparing the results
with that new msphoto info freeware .

but as everyones system is different,
i would suggest to experiment a bit more.

i would suggest the following.
in the keywords field enter
keyword 1; keyword2;

in the comments field enter
comment1; comment 2;

and continue to do the same for
any field available to you for 1 or 2
of your pics.

Then in your file explorer right click on an any
of the column headings and
add additional columns to your view.

in mine, i selected all of them to see what
information would appear. You might be
pleasantly surprised.

there are additional variables for you
to incorporate into your experiment.

one would be to enter data using
the msphoto info freeware as well as
the regular property page for the pic.

the other is to use test your search
feature with the criterian you entered
into the data fields above.

i think that the issue you have with the
keyword option is the same for all of us.

but if i recall, i read somewhere i a small
obscure white paper that the
"keyword" field was tied into somekind of
security features for "all" files in the o.s.
while the other fields like comments have
been allowed for users to utilize.

there is much to be desired for microsofts
way of managing the photo feature. however
i think this is where makes like adobe photoshop
and others have taken advantage of....

hope you let me know if you come to any
reasonable conclusion or solution that can help us ...
