Keystrokes

In the old Outlook Express, I would use Ctrl-U to go to the next unread
message, then I'd use the spacebar to scroll the message. Now, using the
spacebar moves to the next message (not the next *unread* message, just the
next message in the queue.) Is there a new keystroke to replace the spacebar
that scrolls the message instead of moving to the next message?

Thank you, however that is neither a keystroke nor the action I'm looking
for. I want a keystroke that scrolls the message, like the spacebar used to
do in OE.

When viewing a message, hitting the spacebar advances the view of that
message to the next screenful of lines. Once you reach the end of that
message, hitting the spacebar will show the text of the next message.
There is no way of altering that spacebar behavior.

Yes, but that isn't what it does on my machine. Pressing the spacebar,
without first making the preview pane the focus, does absolutely nothing. It
only works as advertised if I first click in the preview pane. Is this a
malfunction of my system (or some sort of incompatibility/conflict, etc.),
and not SOP for Windows Mail? I've used this very same hardware and WinXP
with OE and it works just fine. Keyboard is a simple Microsoft Natural with
no additional functions beyond the basic -- no internet or Office functions.
I haven't programmed any special keys. Been using it all for years.

On my system, for the spacebar to work properly, either the preview
pane or the message list pane has to have focus. If the folder list
(left pane) has focus, the spacebar does nothing.
If yours doesn't work that way, I have no idea what could be wrong.

It happens when I'm in the message list. Instead of scrolling the message,
it jumps to the next message in the list. Not the next unread message, just
the next message in the list.

So it looks like a one-off problem. Good for a slow-day research project.

Yeah, sounds like a one-of-a-kind problem with your particular machine.
Message body text scrolling works properly here with the message list selected.
