Hi:
I am running a Japanesese XP Home on my Japanese computer
with few problems, but I just added an English XP Home.
The installation went okay, I think, but now the keys are
returning the wrong symbols, even though the letters seem
to work. It has a typical bilingual keyboard with English
letters as the main symbol and kana in the bottom right.
The most annoying problem is that there is no atmark , so
Internetting becomes impossible. I had the same problem
with the Japanese XP, but it is fixed if I select Japanese
as the main language on the Taskbar. I already tried
that...adding Japapanese and English as input languages
and keyboards but it didn't fix the problem on the English
XP. Surely I don't have to buy an English keyboard too????
Is there a fix? I have installed the security patches but
not yet the XP upgrades. Would those do any good?

Thanks, someone, anyone.....
Jean

Hi Chek,
Thanks. I tried that but no luck. I tried all the English
keyboards, also the Japanese one but still [ for atmark.
However I did find the atmark under the quotation
mark.I&ve sent a message to Microsoft support but no
answer yet. Also my English windows has no sound. Using
system speakers which work great with the Japanese XP.
Arggghhhh! Anyway, thanks for your intended help. I
apreciate your time.
A smile, Jean

Hello Jean
(Couldn't bring myself to say Hi Jean.)
( Doh!)
If the presets for R&L options don't seem to work, I am inclined to think
that there may be a regional hardware difference underlying the prob.
It's possible (it looks time-consuming) for you to assign characters to
hotkeys using these steps pasted from the helpfiles
To customize key sequences for input languages

1.. Open Regional and Language Options in Control Panel.
2.. On the Languages tab, under Text services and input languages, click
Details.
3.. Under Preferences, click Key Settings.
4.. In the Advanced Key Settings dialog box, under Hot keys for input
languages, click the action for which you want to change the key sequence,
and then click Change Key Sequence.
5.. If necessary, select the check box to enable an action, and then click
the key sequence you want to use.
6.. Click OK four times.
Good luck

Jean,
You may need to go to start > controlpanel > regional and language options >
regional options tab.
US and UK English have slightly differently (double adverbs?? what gives?)
mapped keyboard layouts.
Try toggling from whichever setting you have currently to the alternative.
Click 'apply' to test ,then 'apply' and 'ok' when you find the correct
version for your keyboard.
Hope this helps
Chek
