My 2 yr. old son pulled off all of the keys on my Dell
Inspiron 5000e laptop with Win2k Pro. Now, about 1/3 of
the keys are not what they are supposed to be the i is 5
the o is - and so on. is there a way to reset the keyboard
so it is correct again?

Ouch!

I doubt it. If the keys aren't sending the correct signal when pressed, there
is some kind of physical damage. I would take the machine to a technician,
and see what he says. If the machine is still under warranty, Dell _might_ be
kind enough to do something for you, but that's a very long shot IMO.
 
Couple of things here.

1 Turn off Numlock.
2 Double check that the Key was installed in the correct position.

If you don't have the manual to look at got to Start, Programs,
Accessories, Acessability, On Screen Keyboard. At least you can see the
letter key layout.

what is the exact problem?

a) the keys are labeled incorectly on the keyboard

or

b) when you press a button, another character is displayed
on our screen


if it is a), i suggest you try to find an image or working
keyboard and swapp the keys to the right position. on
normal laptop keyboards you can do it

if it is b), you should have a look at your IME
configuration and select the correct keyboard layout or
locale.
