Keyboard won't respond on CD or floppy bootup

Running XP SP2. I'm trying to boot my pc from a floppy or Vista Home Premium
Upgrade DVD. I normally use a wireless keyboard but have plugged in a USB
keyboard. I'm able to get to my BIOS fine, but when I'm presented with "Hit
any key to boot from CD or DVD" or when I get the A: prompt from the floppy,
I'm getting no response from hitting any key on my keyboard.

Any suggestions on how I can get the keyboard to respond?

Thanks

Check the BIOS to ensure you have the settings for USB Keyboard enabled.
Another option would be to try a ps/2 keyboard to try with?

Weird------On my system the method used to 'boot' from a CD is to change the
boot source in BIOS and then power on. No mention of 'hit any key'.

Not really weird. It depends on your particular motherboard/BIOS. The
"hit any key" message is common, but not universal.

I've heard of 'hit any key' of course, but never for booting. Makes no
sense and would only complicate things.

I don't agree. Its purpose to let you boot normally from the HD if
you've set the boot order to CD first, and accidentally left a CD in
the drive. I think that's a valuable.feature.

Complicates things. I.E. Kind of keyboard---wireless, USB, PS/2 etc. BIOS
should be simple. If you leave a CD in, pushing a key won't detect that.

No, pushing the key confirms that booting from the CD was what you
wanted to do. It's an "are you sure" type of prompt.

I think it's a useful feature, and doesn't complicate things at all.
You certainly don't have to agree with me.

Think of yourself as the author of BIOS and you'll know what I mean.
