I forgot to back up the recovery partition for an old VAIO PCG-TR2
before trashing it. Now I lost the ability to adjust the sound volume
and monitor brightness via hot-keys.

Any help to find relevant (keyboard?) drivers would be appreciated.

There is not much of value here. There isn't a complete set of drivers
that I can see.

Didn't you burn recovery media ? (Usually, the laptop prompts you after
a day or two, to burn recovery discs.) I think my laptop
claimed to be making a driver CD, but I've never bothered
to look at it.

A hot key driver, probably isn't a regular driver. Some of the
software, associated with HID (human interface device) hardware,
uses a filter driver, which shims into the software stack, and
intercepts the byte stream. Something like that can be used for
hot keys. In other words, a standard Microsoft driver would already
be there for the keyboard, and an "invisible" shim, using UpperFilter/LowerFilter
would be added by some hotkey software, to gain access to the byte stream.
So it's not likely to be a regular driver as such, as it doesn't
"make the keyboard work". The keyboard works without it, except special
function keys don't do anything.

I could find the drivers for PCG-TR2A:

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-home.pl?mdl=PCGTR2AP&LOC=3#/downloadTab

... but the hotkey utility was not there. The hotkey utility was NOT
considered a driver by Sony.

Thanks.

After over 2 hours of searching, I found a mainland China website called
Driver Sky, and located the 5 applications in the following link:

http://bbs.drvsky.com/simple/?t130.html

Scroll down (or use Find) to "ã€é€‚åˆPCG-TR系列】".

I'm glad you can read it :-) I can't figure out what you're supposed
to click, to begin a download on this page. Not much different
than the other driver sites, where you can't figure it out either.
Just a slight language barrier for me.

Challenge: Find the same utility from Sony's websites!!

It seems that Sony moved all files of out-dated VAIO models to a secret
place. :)

Try finding AMD support for five year old chips. You'll find tens of
thousands of links scattered across the net "to" AMD support, but all of
them end up dead-ending at an all but useless AMD support portal that does
nothing but redirect to itself. Bastards.

My VAIO PCG-TR and VGN-G notebooks are using Intel stuff...
