Keyboard types wrong characters/letters

Occasionally, out of the blue, usually in the middle of a creating a document or filling in a web form, my keyboard becomes possessed and types letters and character other than the ones I am hitting. Sometimes it happens in Outlook, sometimes in Word, sometimes in a webform. Most recently it would come and go while filling in a webform, but was OK in Word and Outlook. The characters had actually switchwed.,i.e. s=< and <=s. Then it just disappeared. Once I had to reboot to get it working correctly again. Help!! Is there a poltergeist in my keyboard.
 
This *may* have something to do with your language settings - try here -
Control Panel > Date,Time Language(etc) > Regional & Language Options
