Not all of the keys on my keyboard seem to be working? so
I bought a new one and theres still the same problem? I
am using a USB keyboard on win2000. Any suggestions??

If you have the ability to boot to DOS from a diskette,
then try the keyboard there. Otherwise if you know how,
try booting in to the system BIOS and testing the keys
there. (You can usually select the option to set a
password, which will give you a text field to type
in to.) Do not of course actually
set a password. With a USB keyboard you may need
to enable legacy USB support in the BIOS to be
able to type there -- it depends on your system board.

If you have a PS/2 keyboard available, I'd also try that.

If the keyboard works in DOS or the BIOS then you have
a Windows problem. If it doesn't, as you've already
replaced the keyboard you almost certainly have
a motherboard problem -- likely the keyboard scan
controller -- and it will have to be replaced. Good excuse
for an upgrade.

Windows keyboard problems tend to be third-party
programs or viruses. Do a safe-mode boot which usually
will eliminate this possibility. If it still happens you may
have a problem with the USB filter driver. Look for an
update.

hello, i have a similar problem, but it is with a ps/2 keyboard. I can use bios and dos and windows 98 all fine. When i upgraded to win2k my keyboard stops working at the windows2k startup screen. I have since replaced the motherboard and hard drive and keyboard(ps/2) to see if there where any problems there, and it still has the same result.
I then used the mouse(serial) to connect to the net and download all of the latest windows updates to this date. It is also a fresh hard drive with a clean install of win 98 upgraded to win2k(that was the only way I could install win2k with just the mouse), So therefore there are no viruses to my knowledge.
I am very baffled at this problem, and wondering if you have encountered it before, as i can see a few other user have as well, but with no replies..
This is very urgent as i plan for this machine to act as a server, and it is needed to be operatonal soon..
Thanks
