Hi, my wifes laptop keyboard keeps displaying numbers when she presses
m,j,k,l,u,i,o, and a few other keys. Does anyone know how to get out of
that?. Thanks. P.S. Laptop is a Dell 2650 with XP

Hook up an external keyboard. What happens now? If that works then the
laptop board needs replacing.

Numlock is turned on. Turn it off and the keys will type letters again.
Usually there is a Fn key that gets pressed with NumLk to toggle this on or
off.

While holding the Fn key (lower left after Ctrl) press F11.
This will toggle the numeric lock.

Shows what I know about laptops! ;o)

Jeez mis PP! Get real!
The keyboard's "keypad" function is turned on! It's a common
feature on laptops because there is no numeric keypad. It's
usually simply a button press to turn it on or off, but not
knowing anything abvout the laptop it's hard to be more specific.

I may or may not know what I'm saying, but if I
have nothing to say, that's what I say!

Dell generally uses Fn+F11 as its number lock key (and I note the OP is
using a Dell). That is, in case the OP isn't quite sure what I mean,
'press the blue function key plus the F11 key simultaneously'. But as
you say, it might be different on different models...
