Using W2K on a Dell Latitude c600. User did something
unknown where the keyboard (internal/external) no longer
functions in windows. Dell techs had me try to repair the
windows installation, but now is asking for the product
key and keyboard still not functioning. Many important
files on HDD, would suck if we had to reformat.

Thanks for any help you may offer.

at what point durring machine startup is keyboard failure noticed { Boot,
Win2k login, Win2k Run) ?

if fails from boot
try to access CMOS/Setup (?F2 or Del?) at boot and make sure keyboard was
not disabled there

did not mention mouse so...

if you can boot to Win2k login and then keyboard fails to respond ...

try boot Safe mode or Last know good or Debug etc.... using F8 at W2k
startup screen
then try re-install / update keyboard drivers etc.

if you can get to Win2k then fails
try on-screen keyboard

Start->Programs->Accesories->Accessibility->On-Screen Keyboard

click in application you want to type and then use mouse to type from
on-screen keyboard.

at some point where you will have access to run things etc then maybe you
can fix problem by updating the keyboard driver under device manager
keyboard in control panel and etc...
