Nick

Hello.
I am in the UK.
I've made a newbuild and installed Win XPProSP2. Generally works grand. A
small problem is that if I type @ I get " and viceversa. This is the same in
all programs. Haven't checked all keys but most seem to work fine.
I have checked control panel 'regional & language settings' and all seems to
be ok for my region. Have also tried exchanging keyboards with other pc but
the problem remains.

Any ideas please?
My apologies if this is a dumb post, I don't have a great deal of experience
and am stumped!

Thanks

Nick.

Check your input method & language under the Control Panel's
Regional and Language Options. It sounds like you're using the wrong
version of English for your location.

Thank you. As per o.p. I have checked control panel> regional and language
settings. Standards & formats are set to English (UK). Location is set to
United Kingdom.
Have also checked (in control panel) keyboard and mouse settings, all
appears correct there.

Still stumped ;(

but my thanks to you.

Nick.

Are you using a cordless keyboard?

I have had the same problem from time to time and a new battery often
fixes it. There are about three pairs that seem to have that problem. I
find you may be able to continue if you use the key that printed rather than
they key you want. :-)

Thanks Joseph,

no, I'm not using a cordless keyboard or mouse. KB is PS2, rodent is USB.
I have tried swapping the kb with other pc's but to no avail.
I type @ I get " . If I type " I get @. Not a huge problem but I would
dearly like to be rid of it!
BAH!

Thanks Mike,

in all honesty I cannot say that I have seen (or remember) any option to set
the UK keyboard to 'default'.
OTOH I have been chasing so many wild geese that I can barely remember where
I have been. Please woud you let me have better details on how to set UK as
default.
Please excuse me for top posting. I am only following your lead but I know
that such practise is frowned upon by some.

Thanks
Nick.

You are using a UK keyboard with a US keyboard layout

Change the keyboard layout in Control Panel | Regional and Language Options
| Languages | Details | Settings.

Thanks Ken.
I will check that out on the morrow and report back to the ng.

Nick.

When doing a clean install, you get the chance to set the language of the
computer in use. If you dont change the default setting AS WELL as the
language you select, at that stage, then it tries to use the UK language
that you set, but also uses the default setting which is English US and you
get these strange keyboard anomalies later, as you have found to your cost.
