Keyboard Non responsive

When my system boots up and I get to the login screen, my
keyboard becomes totally disabled. I am able to get into
the Bios & I am also able to use a USB connected mouse,
however, I am stuck without my keyboard. This occired
after I installed a new DVD Drive (Hardware only as I
never got to log in)

When you boot into Safe mode, is the keyboard usable then? When in Safe
mode, what keyboard is listed in Device Manager?
