Keyboard locking up?

Two days ago I had my keyboard/cursor lock up and could only get out of
it by powering off. This happened 5-6 times over a period of two hours.

Is this a known problem or is it possible that I inadvertently hit a
combination of keys that does this?

Thanks

I've never heard of something like this, without a _hardware_
explanation. It sounds to me like it's time to remove, clean, and
firmly re-insert the keyboard connector.

Is this something I can do on my Sony laptop? Thanks.

I didn't see a smiley, so I'll answer straight. The keyboard
connection is almost certainly hard wired in your laptop. Since you
ask the question, I think you should not think about trying to repair
it yourself. (I wouldn't try it myself, though I've done minor
repairs on desktops before.)

Is it in warranty? Call Sony.

However--

Has the problem recurred? Did it happen in the first place after
you'd been working for a long time? It's possible that there's a bad
connection, one that shows up only when the interior reaches a
certain temperature.

Or it _could_ be software, just not something I thought of.

I suspect it is software. It only happened 4-5 times and has not
happened since then. A friend was saying she had the same problem about
the same day as I did. I believe I had this problem a long time ago and
finally solved it by defragging.

I am powered on for hours at a time almost every day and can't relate it
to how long I am on.

Thanks
Stan
