Keyboard keys change during use

While using my PC I notice that the keyboard layout seems to change,
that is some keys such as @ and " get swapped.
So when I hit the " key the @ symbol appears on the screen.
Other keys are affected too, such as keys # \ etc.

I am using a UK layout.

This behaviour doesn't happen all the time and I cannot identify what
is causing it.

Any ideas?

This happens when you press the hotkey combination that swaps keyboard
layouts. Go into the Control Panel / Regional Settings, then check what
keyboard layouts you have installed and what the hotkey combination is. Do
you need layouts other than the UK type? If no then you should get rid of
the rest. It's probably a German layout that causes your problem.

Thanks.
The other layout was US.
For the time being I have disabled the hotkey combination sequence.
If the problem persist then I shall remove the US layout completely.
