My Compaq Windows XP laptop just started doing something really strange. I
type the letter Y and up pops 2, K types 3, etc. I can't access web sites to
update or anything because the keys typing the wrong letters are completely
missing. Other keys don't type the right characters.

The computer is unusable. Please help. Any ideas?

Languages show US English. Can't find anything else wrong.
Is this a virus?

I found that the keys being typed are in blue, as if Function is pressed
down, but it is not. Is there a function lock key???

Never mind :-)

I found that I had locked function on when trying to do a force quit of a
program. I don't use Windows much, so I'm not too up on the function keys.,

Try a different keyboard and see if you still have the problem. Keys do
get stuck.

Alias

Laptop? Possibilities

Language bar
Numeric lock

Worse, keyboard disconnected itself partitially while being moved, A slight
vibration could have caused that if the thin wire was not set properly at
the factory....

First think the worst then find ways around it.
