Keyboard Issue

I've been having some keyboard problems this week. I guess on Tuesday 11/13,
I was downloading some programs and they all installed properly. That night,
when I turned off my computer, the automatic update went and installed some
updates. The next day I turned on my computer and when I got to the log in
screen I found I couldn't type my password in. The mouse worked fine, so I
unplugged my USB keyboard and plugged it back in to see if it would make a
difference, it didn't. After that I decided to restart, but the same thing
happened. I figured that the programs I downloaded must have screwed
something up. I found that my keyboard worked during the boot up because I
could hold F8 and start in safe mode and press enter and so on. In safe mode
I still couldn't use the keyboard to log in, thankfully my admin account
doesn't have a password so I could log in that to restore my computer to the
day before I installed those programs. Sure enough, after the restore I
could use my keyboard at the log in. So that day I didn't download or
install anything else, but that night when I turned my computer off the
automatic update went off again and installed the updates. I turned on my
computer the following day and same problem: I can't type with my keyboard to
log in. So I restore again, keyboard works again, and I turn off automatic
updates. I restart to test, and choose the option to shut down but not
install the updates and it works fine.
So my question is: how do I fix this problem with the update without
constantly choosing not to install the update everytime I turn off my
computer for the rest of my computer's life?

If you turn off automatic update, and select 'custom install' when you call
up the update, you get the option to check a box to not ask to install again.
start/run, type:
sysdm.cpl

Automatic updates tab....'notify...'
