i recently tried to install a cordless keyboard and mouse on my sons
computer, it has xp sp2. the result? nothing, the new cordless bits don't
work, the old wired bits now no longed work, i probably need to do a system
restore or at least uninstall the drivers for the new cordless bits but how,
i don't know how to navigate around the computer without a mouse, i think the
new keyboard may be working as a light flahes on it when i press keys, the
thing is i still don't know how to navigate around with just a keyboard, any
help would be appreciated.
kind regards

When installing cordless keyboards and mice, it is absolutely imperative to
follow the manufacturer instructions to the letter.. re-read them..

hiya Mike, thanks for the response, yea, i have read and reread the
instructions sveral times and they have been followed to the letter without
success, the problem i now have is how to uninstall it or use system restore
without being able to use the mouse. any advice?
kind regards

Try uninstalling the software in Add/remove programs.. this will most likely
disable mouse and keyboard completely.. I know it sounds drastic, but after
doing this, pull the power lead out.. reconnect a regular mouse and
keyboard, and then let the system boot as normal.. it should pick up the
corded devices..

What make and model cordless devices do you have?

thanks Mike, my problem is, how do i get to add/remove programs if i can't
use the mouse and keyboard to navigate there, i have no problem uninstalling
or using system restore, but i don't know how to get there without a mouse
and keyboard. kind regards

Keyboard and mouse need batteries. Are they in place. If yes
have you tried replacing with new ones?

hi Gerry, yes i have tried replacing all of the batteries, i think that the
keyboard may be working, the problem i have is that i don't know how to use
just the keyboard to navigate around the desktop and the computer. is there a
way that i can use the computer without using the mouse, if i knew how to do
this i would be able to access add/remove programs or system restore.
kind regards.

Now you have the keyboard working, try pressing the 'reset' button on the
base of the mouse.. if it is anything like mine, it took a few attempts to
get it to register..

well many thanks for your response and support, unfortunately i have tried
all of your suggestions without success, i wonder therefore if someone could
answer a straightforward question for me. is it possible to use the computer
and find my way around it by using just the keyboard?
kind regards

Have you tried physically removing the new keyboard and mouse whilst
the computer is switched off. Then connecting your old keyboard and
mouse.

Reboot the computer and if the system detects their presence.

Using the keyboard alone is always possible in Windows - it's just nobody
can remember the keystrokes!!

"Alt" key will higlight the top menu in the active window. Arrow keys will
move you around the menu.

"Alt" plus "Tab" will switch between windows (probably not if not ticked in
settings -hopefully you have the default allowed).

The "window" key will open the start button. Arrow keys will get you around
the start menu.

"window" key plus "E'" will open Windows Explorer.

This "windows" button is a great feature but I cannot for the life of me
remember what happens to access the "start' button without a mouse on
keyboards without the "windows' button! Yours is new so should have the
"window" button (windows flying window logo).

Can't remember much else but the above works on mine - gets into contol
panel etc no problem.
