startup troubles!!!!!!!

My son was using his computer and suddenly the screen went
to a light blue screen with a lot of text on it, but he
said this message was on there, Kernel_data_inpage_error,
also something about if this problem persists,,,,,,,,and
something about installing new hardware (sorry to be so
vague), but he didn't install anything new. He was just
looking at the ESPN website. Well I did get it back to
windows, but it doesn't stay there long. Anyone have any
ideas what is going on here?

Hi,

Did you build this machine yourself? That error is common when you don't use
an 80-wire cable for an ATA66 or higher drive.

Yes I did build it myself. I can't tell you right off
what kind of cable was used. This was over a year ago and
we have never had any trouble with it before!

Hi,

Well, time to check. It should be easy to tell.

See MVP Jim Eshelman's web page for STOP errors at
http://www.aumha.org/win5/kbestop.htm

Click on the "7A: Kernel Data Inpage" item in the left side column.

Good luck
