Kernel Memory

What is the Kernel memory supposed to be at
approximately? I am running windows XP Professional with
1 Gig Ram 2.4 GigHz athlon XP. My Kernel Memory is at
about 45 Mb and keeps fluctuating up and down. I get
this info from task manager. It keeps catching my eye,
and usually that happens only when something has
changed... So i am wondering if something happened...
