Does anyone know how to send and receive faxes,
using ADSL connection with the Fast Ethernet
Adapter. The fax program included in Windows xp
does not find a modem, perhaps because it searches
in the Com ports and not in the Fas Ethernet
Adapter?
Thank you evrybody, for your help

AFAIK you can't send a fax through ADSL - you either need a Modem installed,
or you can send a fax from certain websites I believe.....

Riccardo,
I think it depends on if you are trying to use an intenral fax/modem or
externa fax machine.
I have an HP All in One Prt/Scan/Fax. I can send/recieve faxes w/o a prob.
But there are also programs via ISP's that let you faxt to a mailbox, sort
of like email.

I know this may not ans. all your questions. But I hope it's a start.

Fax requires an analogue modem (56k).. they are cheap enough.. connect it to
the regular phone line via a DSL filter as per your other phones..

Makes no difference whatsoever whether internal or external.. your all in
one printer is equipped with an analogue modem which is why it faxes out..
an internal analogue modem would do exactly the same..

The FAX program that comes with Windows XP is for faxing via POTS (plain old
telephone system) just as a standalone fax machine would do.

Your choices are, install a fax modem and plug it into a POTS jack or use
one of the many "Internet fax" services such as
http://www.efax.com/en/efax/twa/page/homePage?CMP=OTC-us_oh ( an example not
an endorsement )

Right. That's because there is none. The device we lossely call a DSL
"modem" is technically not a modem at all.

You can not do what you are trying to do. To send a fax directly, you need
to connect to the dial-up telephone network with a conventional dial-up fax
modem. DSL does not work.

You have three choices:

1. Buy and install a convential dial-up fax modem. They are not expensive.

2. Buy a separate fax machine (some of these are very inexpensive. I have
one I found on sale for $20, and I think at that price, it's a better choice
than a dial-up fax modem)

3.Use one of the several web-based fax services (google will find you
several choices).
