keeps shutting down

Sounds like the worm/virus thing, the Sasser worm, it kills some process and
makes your computer shut down in 60 seconds? No command in the universe
will stop that computer from carrying out its prime directive, to shut down.

An unprotected computer gets shut down about every 2-3 minutes

you need a firewall

If you have XP, start the computer, do NOT connect the network, and dont
dialup

go into your network settings in XP and enable the firewall, there is a
wizard to help, at least mine has one

then get to the windows update website, and download everything it
recommends, there is a fix for that sasser worm

For ? $35 at a store you can buy a new antivirus/anti spyware package that
should protect your system from this. Just buy it, because it may be hard
to download from the internet if the computer keeps getting shut down

Then download the Microsoft spyware removal beta, its THE BEST Ive seen, I
do wish they had a harsh mode that would assume the worst and act fast
