I have been having a problem turning Windows Defenter on. After trying many
things, I noticed if I turned Microsoft Security Essentials off then I could
turn Windows Defender on. Then when I turn Microsoft Security Essentials on,
Windows Defender is turned off. Are they not compatable?

Windows Defender detects and removes known spyware only.
Windows Defender is anti-spyware only

WD it is not designed to protect against the full breadth of malicious
software, and specifically does not prevent viruses, worms,Trojans, and other
malicious software from infecting your machine.

Microsoft Security Essentials real-time protection, including anti-virus,
anti-rootkits, anti-Trojans and anti-spyware.

Turn Microsoft Security Essentials on, you no need WD.

Windows defender is turned off because it is a part of Microsoft Security
Essentials.
