Keeping Photo Info on CD

In XP I can enter information (date, places, names etc) about a digital
photo when I load it from scanner/camera. When saving the image to CD, this
info is lost. Any way I can preserve this using just XP, or do I need other
software. If so, any suggestions? (Freeware/shareware preferred!)
