keeping multiple windows open

I am running windows xp and use internet explorer. when i minimize a page
from internet explorer then open a new ie window, the window that is
minimized closes. How do i correct this problem.

In the Control Panel > Internet Options > Advanced make sure that
"Reuse windows for launching shortcuts" is not checked.
