Hi, Is there a way of keeping a note of the times that my pc is shut down and
started. I need to know when it is started and closed down.
If you're running XP Home Edition, do the following:
Go to Control Panel and double click Administrative Tools.
Open Event Viewer.
In Event Viewer, right click on Security in the left hand pane.
Select Properties from the menu that drops down.
In Security Properties, click on the Filter tab.
On the Filter page, select Security in the Event source box and
Logon/Logoff in the Category box.
Click OK.
You should now see only the Logon/Logoff events listed in the right hand
pane.
If you're running XP Professional, you'll have to turn on auditing to
see these events. To turn on auditing, do the following:
Go to Control panel and double click Administrative Tools.
Open Local Security Policy.
Click on the + sign next to Local Policies in the left hand pane.
Click on Audit Policy.
In the right hand pane, right click on Audit Logon Events.
Select Properties from the menu that pops out.
Check Success and Failure.
Click OK.
Close the Local Security Policy Console.
Logon/Logoff events will now be recorded in the Event Viewer.
Note: You will not see any past events. Only events that occur after
auditing has been enabled will be recorded.
To view these events follow the procedure outlined above for XP HE.
Post back if you want to know how to create a console which will always
open up with only the Logon/Logoff events displayed.
Good luck
