Keep the same frame size as source video.

I want to change some WMV files to a lower bit rate but keep the same frame
size. Is there a way to do this with MM? The selections I see all set the
video frame size.

TIA

Hi Mike,

Try using the 'Best fit to file size' option when saving the movie.... look
at the stats at the lower left of the saving wizard window as you adjust the
size up and down.... bit rate, video size, fps figures will change
appropriately as you adjust the file size limit.

If you can't get what you want there, then it's a custom profile. See the
Saving Movies > Custom WMV Profiles page of my site.

Well, I followed the advice on creating my own profile and it sort of
worked. The videos I am messing with are created for a plasma display in
portrait mode. The originals are 768 x 1280. I am trying to use MM2 to
join a couple together. I created my profile with a video size of 768 x
1280 and it shows in the list when I Save Movie File. However, the
information about the movie to be saved (in the dialog box) shows everything
correct except it says, "Aspect Ration: 4:3". This is not correct for a
frame size of 768 x 1280. The resultant movie is indeed a 4:3 ratio even
though the File, Properties say the video size if 768 x 1280. I tried using
Asftools to join the clips but the result had some stutters. That is why I
am trying MM2.

Any thoughts?

You can only choose between aspect ratios of 4:3 and 16:9 in the MM2
options.... but, if the info is correct for your frame size of 768x1280,
that will be the size of the saved movie in WMV format.

The issue is then with the player you use to view it. The version 9 Windows
Media Player will read the 4:3 tag in the file and play it at that ratio
even if the true size is different.... you need to use a different player.
See my comments about playback on the Saving Movies > Custom WMV Profiles
page of the site.... and the two samples on it that use the embedded browser
for playback. HTML file settings of 768x1280 would be used for playback in
an browser window.

You can also use an older version 7.01 player, which won't follow the 4:3
setting.

Hmm, o.k. I use Windows Media Player control from within a c++ program to
play the videos. The machines all have WMP 9 on them so I know there will
be ramifications to use a different player. I'll have to mess around with
it some more. Thanks.
