The Bios Batteries in my Win XP Packard Bell (DL2032) machine keep
need replacing. The last one only lasted a few weeks. Am I using the
wrong battery? i.e should it be a rechargeable one or is there
anything else wrong?

Why do you think it needs replacing ?

Why do you think it needs replacing ?

Cos the machine doesnt boot up into Bios. I have had to put 2 new
batteries in in one month. Made sure the replacements were a good
make, Duracell, and they were fresh.

Is there any difference between CR 2032 and DL 2032?

That's *extremely* unusual. They normally last a few years (3-5).

How do you know it needs replacing.

Is this a new situation or has it always been like that? How old is
the computer?

How many times have you replaced the battery.

Am I using the wrong battery?

No. A wrong battery wouldn't work at all.

i.e should it be a rechargeable one

No, unfortunately there are none.

or is there anything else wrong?

I suspect something is wrong with your motherboard, and it's draining
the battery prematurely. Almost the only other possibility I can think
of is that you've been using bad batteries.

The motherboard could very well be bad...
but I'd check the spring clips to be sure they are clean and tight.

If you have a volt meter though you can confirm the battery is bad if
the voltage is under 3 volls

Same battery (CR and DL), different mfg , I believe.
Have you had this machine quite a long time and did it usually boot into the
BIOS?
What does it do now? Not boot at all? Lose BIOS settings? Lose time? ???
Make sure the battery spring clips are clean and hold the battery properly.
Make sure the battery is not installed upside down (unlikely, but?)
When installing a new battery, make sure you don't leave finger print oil on
it.

PS: Best of luck.
