Hi,
Hopefully this post is in the right place. If not, let me know where I
should put it.
Sorry for the length, I am trying to give as much details as I can.
I have a small network, with a couple XP workstations connected to a Win
2003 server. This server is a domain controler, and I have all the proper
account setup.
All stations connect through wireless to the router (linksys router) - the
server is wired.
A couple months ago, one of the stations started loosing connection to the
server.
What is weird is that Internet works fine, but the server connection does
not work. The symptoms are that a mapped drive is not reachable, the machine
is really - really - really slow, and there is not much information in the
event viewer of either the server or the workstation.
I tried with a wired network card that is built in the client machine, and I
had the exact same results.
I reinstalled XP from scratch, but I am facing the same problem.
I went to the configuration of the DNS on the server, just in case (note
that I don't know much about the configuration of a DNS server - I followed
posts on the net), and all seem right.
The IP addresses are given by the DHCP server - the router in this case.
I know that the DNS is the one from the ISP (when I do the IPCOnfig /all)
for all stations. The other stations have the exact same configuration (dns,
gateway, ...), but they all work properly, just this one is giving troubles.
Since I reinstalled, the machine works so fast...when it has a connection to
the server. If I log in with a local account (on the station itself) it
starts windows pretty fast, and of course, I don't have slowness problems.
When I use a domain account, windows starts normally, and after a couple
hours (not consistent) it starts to be really slow, and then I can't connect
to the server share anymore.
Would someone have an idea of what I could try?
Should I use static IP addresses? If yes, what should be the gateway? What
should be the DNS? (router, server, ISP, ...)
Thanks for the help!
A desparate guy
