Running Win XP home on a pretty solid P4 system.

Using a registry cleaner, I keep finding entries for
programs I use listed as startmenu2. The cleaner, JV16,
keeps saying they are useless entries and I should delete
them. I do delete them and everything works fine.

Then a days later, there are again many program entries on
start menu 2....they've come back!

Why would a start menu 2 be being created on an almost
daily basis?

Any suggestions or ideas as to how I might figure this out?

TIA

Sometimes when you move to a Restore Point, it is
necessary for the system to rename certain folders.
Perhaps this is what has happened here.

Did the registry cleaner say it;s an invalid entry?

"Start Menu2" contains the sort order of the new Start menu
"Start Menu" contains the sort order of the classic Start menu

These keys should be present here:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MenuOr
der]

Yes - it said it was an invalid entry.

However, I just went into regedit and followed your hkcu
link and found menu order and under that were two listings:
favorits and start menu2. There was no listing for plain
start menu.

Should I just ignore these when they come up in the
registry cleaner (using JV16 Power Tools)?

TIA

Louise,

Before using registry cleaners [no necessity to use although], make sure you
have the UNDO file so that you may revert the changes again. Some registry
cleaners prove destructive and unassociates some functionality in Windows.
[eg., Help and Support Center issue]
