I have added a second user to my Windows XP Pro computer
and all of the user's icons on the taskbar do not appear
at all. I right-click on the taskbar, select toolbars and
any of the preloaded toolbars and they appear fine.
However, icons representing running applications such as
IE, Word, Outlook, etc., do not appear at all. The high-
contrast accessibility feature was never turned on and
the KB fix does not work in this case. Does anyone have a
fix for this problem?

A couple of things to check. The taskbar has a nearly invisible vertical
divider. If moved too far in the wrong direction, it might hide all the
icons. Hover the mouse over the taskbar and see if you can find this
divider. When you do, the cursor will change to a double horizontal arrow.
If the divider seems far too the left, drag it slowly to the right, if it is
far to the right, drag it slowly to the left.

As to running applications, depending upon room on the taskbar, they may
appear as nothing more than a small carrot mark at the end of the taskbar,
if you see such carrot marks, click on them. This is also a sign the
divider I mentioned earlier is too far to the right on the taskbar.

You can also try doubling the size of the taskbar to see if things become
visible. Hover the mouse over the top edge of the taskbar, when the cursor
becomes a double vertical arrow, drag the top of the taskbar up slightly,
just enough to double the size. If everything appears but is on the bottom
level of the taskbar, that divider I mentioned earlier is too far to the
right.
