KB939653 fails to install from windows update every time. I tried a manual
install and it still won't work.

The error is KB939653 failed to install, code 0x80242006

Internet Explorer version is 7.00.6000.16512

Add/Remove Programs > make sure the Show Updates box is checked (top, right)
Is "Security Update for Windows Internet Explorer 7 (KB9396530)" listed?

Are you running an x64 version of WinXP?

What anti-virus and third-party firewall is installed?

I don't recognize that version number (7.00.6000.xxx) as being for XP.
Latest version of IE7 is 7.0.5730.13. Something's not right here.

Yes, its version 7.0.5730.13,
The 7.00.6000.16512 is from the properties box for iexplore.exe.

Ok then, is the account that's trying to do the Windows Update or
install the patch an Admin account or the Administrator account?
