After the last kb939653 we are now unable to get to certain web sites (IE
6.2900.2180xxx just flashes and closes). Most are https sites. We have
added these to the trusted security, and they still fail.

So we unloaded the patch to be able to utilize our web sites (which are all
HTTPS). But when you unload the patch it states that it might break about
12-15 other applications. So now the SVG Viewer is broken. When we load SVG
files, the window just disappears. So we unloaded Symantec Antivirus,
reinstalled the Adobe SVG Viewer 3.0.3 and we now get an error that the dll
file (which is the plug-in), will not register (NPSVG3.dll) that Adobe SVG
Viewer cannot load back on.

We have made sure that the plug-in within IE is enabled, and there are
issues. Now we seem to be having problems with other plug-ins that have
worked all along.

Help???!!!!

We actually are using IE 6 and we have physically uninstalled the antivirus,
reinstalled programs and re-enabled. If I am ready that TID correctly, it
sounds like we would have to contact all the parties with the software or IE
sites that fail to work?

Despite the title, 942818 applies to IE6, too.

If tweaking your third-party firewall's settings don't help, try the
following:

1. Disable your anti-virus application, any real-time protection provided by
an anti-spyware application (except for Windows Defender; includes Spybot
Tea Timer, SpySweeper Guards, AVG AS guard.exe, etc.), disable any
third-party firewall AND enable the Windows Firewall.

NB: If you're running ZA Free firewall, you may need to uninstall it instead
of disabling it. You're "working without a net" now: Don't to ANYTHING else
online (e.g., browsing; reading email; chatting) except #4 below until your
anti-virus application has been re-enabled!

2. Uninstall "Security Update for Windows XP (KB939653)" via Add/Remove
Programs (make sure Show Updates box is checked at top right) and reboot.

3. Re-do #1 above.

4. Go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and install any Critical Updates
offered. [NB: one was released today that should apply to your machine]

5. Reboot > Make sure everything in #1 above is enabled again and, if
applicable, disable the Windows Firewall and enable your third-party
firewall.
