Just so you know.

Win def ver 1.1.1051.0
Eng ver 1.1.1186.0
sig ver 1.14.1288.5

All's well again. Good day.

I had the same problem. It installed itself 7 times through auto updates. I
did what you said, and it finally really updated. Now it shows the correct
signatures.

Thanks it worked...
Questions:
Is this:
Msiexec /x {A5CC2A09-E9D3-49EC-923D-03874BBD4C2C}
specific to just this sig update?
Where did you find this this information?
It looks like a registry entry...
If this deletes the current sig only,
what does this alone do 'Msiexec /x' ?I noticed it gave the same dilog box
to uninstall something...

I believe this works for each successive update.

You can run msiexec with no arguments to see the switches-- /x is uninstall,
as I recall.

I've saved
Msiexec /x {A5CC2A09-E9D3-49EC-923D-03874BBD4C2C}
just in case...

I found the same info by looking it up myself
through Microsoft...
I suppose that's what I'll do if it happens again in case that
registry entry is differnet...

The msiexec is interesting as I've been helping people with
Proplus.msi problems for awhile now...

It's worth learning more about.

If you are running into Installer problems, the Windows Installer Cleanup
tool can also, when used carefully, be valuable--it works for the same issue
you raised, and is more general--some folks who get an error message on
trying the command you used, are able to use the cleanup tool.

Defender updates are listed as Windows Defender Signatures.

Hi,

I tried the msiexec way and it didn't work. I then installed the Windows
Installer Cleanup and removed the signature file. After update the file, the
defender still says the file is 41 days old. Then I ran Windows Installer
Cleanup and the file shows 1.20.0.0. Any suggestions?

After removing the signatures with the Installer Cleanup tool, go to Windows
Update and reinstall them.
