When I did a windows upgrade search the kb911927 came up as a "critical
uograde". However this upgrade applies to windows 2000 (not windows xp home
edition which is what I have). Why is "windows upgrade" recommending a
critical upgrade for an operating system that is not on my computer?

Where are you seeing that this update is not for Win XP HE?
That update was installed on my XP HE system on 2/14.

Both of these Microsoft articles list XP Home Edition.
