Since uninstalling this I have had no problems with host services. What I
need to know is "is it yet safe to reinstall this update? Have microsoft
fixed the problem? Or is it best to leave it uninstalled permanently?"

Does this help? "An application that implements the IMallocSpy
debugging interface may experience heap corruption after you install
security update 873333" (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=894194).
Also see "MS05-012: Vulnerability in OLE and COM could allow remote
code execution" (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=873333).
If this does not help, leave the update uninstalled. As far as I can
see, the patch has not been corrected yet.

Thanks- I will leave it as is!
