The last fix (KB41382) I got from Microsoft to address
problems with Windows 2000 PC with KB835732 installed
failed. KB41382 did not resolve any of the issues.

Is there a more recent and/or updated fix available???

Would you please describe the issue you are seeing?

Do you want all of us waiting for a fix to chime in?
You patch keeps an ms-dos program of mine from functioning on two different win2kpro systems.
I login as administrator on both systems, so it should not be related any execution of privaleged
commands...

Look up Case Number SRX040414603980

As far as I have heard it is still open - though I cannot get a reply from the person who originally
contacted me!

I've taken ownership of your support case and will follow up with you
directly.

PROBLEM

========

16-bit Fortran applications compiled with the Lahey compiler no longer

function after applying MS04-011.

Error at runtime

CS:EIP = 000Fh:00001373h

RESOLUTION

============

So far this issue seems to be specific to the Lahey FORTRAN compiler. If

the source code is available the application could be compiled using a

different compiler.

Cause

============

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms04-011.mspx

The fix that renders the application no longer operational is as

follows:

Local Descriptor Table Vulnerability - CAN-2003-0910

The runtime error has always occurred on Windows XP and Windows 2003.
Windows 2000 now also displays the error as it has this security fix in
place which prevents the vulnerability listed above.

Hi Greg, here are the symptoms:

We recently pushed a update that is part of MS04-011,
KB835732 to NT4 and 2000 PC's. On 2000 PC's, after reboot,
we noticed that the PC would hang and services like device
manager would become non-responsive. Multiple instances of
mmc appear in task manager. Upon shut down, the PC hangs
and a "CNC Notifications" error appears. When this update
is removed, PC operation returns to normal. However, we
need this update to protect our systems from the Sasser
virus.

Does anyone have a resolution or work around to this
issue??

With the information provided it is hard for me to say what the root cause
may be for sure. With some debug data I could say with a higher degree of
confidence. I do suspect but am not positive that this following is what
you may be seeing.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;834010

If needed you may want to open a case with PSS to help get to root cause
but as a suggestion you may want to start with testing the fix that I just
referenced.

Thanks,
Greg Lirette
