Those affected by the problem, are you using McAfee
AntiVirus? Specifically version 4.5.1? Stopping the
AVSync Manager service resolves the issue on our systems.

To stop the AVSync Manager service login to the PC as an
administrator. Next, right-click on My Computer and
select Manage. Open the Services and Applications section
and then click on Services. Right-click on the AVSync
Manager service and stop it.

Does the problem go away for you as well? Please post
your results here.

Thanks,

Mike Somar

I have been having the problem with KB835732 and I am running McAfee AV
4.5.1. If I stop McAfee and install KB835732, can I then restart McAfee
later? Or are the two incompatible during run time?

Hi Branden,

I don't know the answer to your question yet. We have
version 7 available to us and so I've uninstalled 4.5.1
and installed 7 to confirm that works.

My best guess is that the two are incompatible at run
time, at least the AVSync Manager service portion is. I'm
still experimenting, and so when I find out more I'll post
it here.

We're using Symantec AV Corp Ed 8 and have the problems with 835732.

I do not use any AV SW apart from sticking to Mozilla
instead of IE and using common sense + multiple firewalls,
and I still had the problems with the new patch until it
was uninstalled.

I'm using Norton Internet Security 2003, and I'm 90% sure
this patch is causing a problem with it as well.

One curious thing I noted is that if I have NIS start
automatically at boot-up (recommended setting)--with this
patch installed--I am unable to bring up ANY Properties
dialogs on drives or individual files. You select
Properties (either File menu or right-click context menu),
nothing happens. Only the current window becomes
inactive. Anyone else?
