Hello Branden,
KB835732 causes IE to fail to save URLs in the history folder. Anyone
else have this problem? It's not addressed here
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;835732
&Product=win2000

yes, on my german version too ... i've tryed the last 3 days and since a
few minutes i've the solution (hope, it'll work tomorrow too :-)

i login as administrator and delete in the local settings
- history (in german 'Verlauf') AND
- temporary internet files AND
- the folder 'userdata', in which some data are stored when you visite
windows-update.

Now it works. In the IE i can see the history, but when i use the
explorer, there are no entries for today. Maybe i can see the today
visited links tomorrow :-)

KB835732 - a great patch with solutions for so many former problems ...
and - when you see in the newgsroups - a great generator for new
problems :-(
really 'great' work from MS

I cannot delete the history folder. It tells me that it is a windows
system folder and cannot be deleted.

Ah. I login as administrator. I guess I could create a second user with
admin privs. I'll try it later.

This is unfair. If Microsoft issues patches quickly they are condemned
because the patches cause other problems. If they take more time to
issue a patch, they are accused of being too slow with the patches.

Patches do tend to cause other problems. IBM in the 80s issued tape
after tape of patches for their flagship operating system MVS. It was
quite common to put on a tape and find that you had other problems. It
was no surprise. That's why we always first tested tapes on another
system.

It's a fact of life. Patches cause new bugs.

Cheers,

Cliff

Hello Cliff,
This is unfair.

Well, when i think about it ... you're wright.
I was very angry. It's in the last 6 vears the first patch which causes
trouble on my system.

Yes, i agree.

Hello Jürgen,

I have the same problem and tested your solution - but
there's still this bug on my PC: If I startet IE twice,
history is completely empty; there's even no category!
Entries are listed only in the view "by hits" ("Anzahl der
Zugriffe"). I think, some DLLs are incompatible - even I
installed all hotfixes for Win2000 and IE 6 SP 1.
Without KB835732 everthing is ok!

problemlos nutze.

I can understand that!

Yes, i agree.
....but that doesn't mean that we shouldn't encourage suppliers of
software to try to do better!

Cheers,

Cliff

Hello Jürgen,

you're right: the problem is caused by McAfee VirusScan 6.02 (no
comment!!!). If I deactivate it, everything is ok - even with KB835732. But
your recommended patch for McAfee doesn't work proper. I always get the
error message "unauthorized modification of VirusScan files".

yes, i've this problem now too :-) ... is not really one ...
additional tests show me, that the deactivation of 'Internetfilters'
(maybe it's enough, to deactivate the option 'ActiveX') gives a solution
for the problem ...
I'll now remove and reinstall McAfee, by disabeling the Option 'ActiveX'
in 'Internetfilter' ... hope, it will work then

Johannes, hello again,

first: sorry for the trouble :-(
i tried today several hours with installation of McAfee incl. the
CR-Patch. It doesn't work :-(

I've now de- and reinstall McAfee wirtout the CR-patch. And i've
disabled the 'internetfilter'. Now it should be okay. My two problems
with 'Verlauf' and 'Windows Update Anpassen' are away.

Hope, this will help you a little bit ...

Hello Johannes,

i talked with McAfee. The didn't give me a solution for the problem, but
a document for the manually uninstall from McAfee Virusscan.

I don't read the instructions in detail until now ... but I'll send you
this email too at this adress:
email+jfi4.de
Mail is round about 55 KB and included an attachment.

I'll try in the evening or on Sunday reinstalling McAfee with the
instructions in this manual.

Hello Johannes,

my last news now:

I've done the clean uninstall and after it the new installation incl.
CR7560.exe. It does NOT work. So the only conclusion is, to install
McAfee 6 without CR7560 and after it disabling the 'internetfilters'.
Then 'Verlauf' and 'userdata' (relevant for 'Windows Update anpassen')
works fine.
