We have several customers experiencing the problem
described in KB article 331869
(http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;331869). Does anyone know anything about this bug?
The article mentions a fix that is available from Support
Serives and that it would be in the next SP for IE 6.
Does anyone know when that will be?

Do I have to call MS everytime one of our customers has
this problem while using our web application or can I get
a copy of the fix and distribute it?

Thanks for any help.

To resolve this problem immediately, contact Microsoft Product Support
Services to obtain the fix. For a complete list of Microsoft Product Support
Services phone numbers and information about support costs, visit the
following Microsoft Web site:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;EN-US;CNTACTMS

NOTE: In special cases, charges that are ordinarily incurred for support
calls may be canceled if a Microsoft Support Professional determines that a
specific update will resolve your problem. The typical support costs will
apply to additional support questions and issues that do not qualify for the
specific update in question.

The fix in Q331869 is MSHTML.DLL v6.00.2800.1132.

Q824145/Nov-03 Cumulative Patch for IE, released today, updates MSHTML.DLL
to v6.00.2800.1276 which should fix your problem *if* it's being caused by a
faulty or wrong version of MSHTML.DLL.

Q824145 and other new updates may be installed via Windows Update. Please
disable your anti-virus application and close all other running processes
before going to Windows Update.

What version of mshtml.dll do you have?

If you have Outlook Express use Help,About and type M twice.
When I do that I see 6.00.2800.1264 which we might assume
satisfies this criteria from the article:

<quote>
This hotfix adds a registry setting that is installed with the hotfix.
The registry setting is:
Key = HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
Value = Q331869: REG_SZ (Set to Yes to enable the fix)

If you apply a later hotfix, security update, or service pack without installing
this hotfix, you must set the registry value manually.
</quote>

I don't want to do that myself but I have checked by browsing
my version that that value is present (as a doublebyte string);
so it seems that it should be worth a try if you have the same version.

AFAIK I got that version by installing the cumulative update 828750.
